A Man Escaped & Lancelot of the Lake
are two awesome movies by Robert Bresson. In both, you hardly get to know or learn about the characters' personality. They do remarkable things (escape from nazi prison, knight of round table)and next to no ego is evinced. Only small glimpses of persona here and there. The characters are mostly just vessels of Belief and Will doing things without style or polish.
Man is a moral animal.

I just now finished, The Devil Probably and am amazed after hitting the IMDB that he was 76 when he made it, I thought he couldn't have been a day over 50.
